Micheal Oher is a homeless Black teen who has been in and out of the school system. Then Leigh Anne Tuohy takes him in and eventually her and her husband become Micheal's legal guardians. Micheal's life is changed with the help of his new family, tutor and potential as a football player.
Leigh Anne in the movie acts as Micheal's White savior. She takes him under her wing, helps him, cares for him and saves him from his previous life. The narrative shows that without Leigh Anne and the Tuohy family, Micheal's life would not be as successful as it is today.
Micheal is welcomed into a rather wealthy, White family where he has access to a tutor, brand-new clothes and a secure roof over his head. All in which, he did not have before.
The movies The Help takes place in 1960s Mississippi, where Skeeter interviews the Black women who spend their lives taking care of the White families
All in all, Abilieen nor Minny would have a voice if Skeeter didn't share create the platform for them to share their stories. The Help is a "feel-good" movie with a White savior giving a voice to these helpless, mistreated Black women. She is shedding the light on their discrimination to help bring civil rights
Abilieen is the first to be interviewed by Skeeter. She shares that her mother worked as a maid and her grandmother was a slave and she herself has been a houseworker since she was teen; she shared stories of the many white children she has raised over the years. Abilieen ultimately is the reason other Black women shared her stories.
Skeeter tells the story of Minny and Hilly. Minny shares that Hilly is outwardly racist and discriminatory towards her, and she eventually is fired for using the inside restroom rather than her designated outhouse
The Green Mile is about John Coffey who is a massive Black man that was convicted of murdering two little white girls and is now on death row. Paul Edgecomb is a correctional officer who crosses paths with Coffey.
After learning of Coffey's innocence, Edgecomb is left with the moral conflicting of executing an innocent man on death row. The movie has the audience feeling badly for Edgecomb and battling the moral conflict with him throughout the movie.
In this movie about race, where this large Black man is wrongly accused of murder two little White girls, Edgecomb acts as a familiar White face for the audience to guide them through this brutal story. Edgecombs is even the narrator of the story, Coffey's death is told through the prospective of a white man.
Despite Coffey's physical appearance he is rather gentle and child-like; he is afraid of the dark and innocent. Coffey's past is very unclear but his innocence does not come to life until he is met by Edgecombs.
It is later revealed that the story is being told by Edgecombs himself at the age of 108 years old to a companion of his. He tells her that as a result of Coffey curing his Blatter infection he was given an extensive lifespan. He believes this is a punishment by God for executing Coffey
