DEFINITION
THE CONCEPT OF JUSTICE IS ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE RULE OF THE LAW AND ITS APPLICATION.

DEMOCRATIC VALUES
DEFINITION
4 VALUES OR BELIEFS THAT WE HOLD AS A SOCIETY

RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
DEFINITION
RIGHTS ARE FREEDOMS WE HAVE THAT ARE PROTECTED BY THE LAWS AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE DUTIES OR THINGS THAT WE SHOULD DO.
EXAMPLE
I HAVE THE RIGHT TO PRACTICE WHATEVER RELIGION I WANT, AND I HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO LET OTHERS PRACTICE THEIR RELIGIONS.
THE CONSTITUTION
WHAT IS IT
THE CONSTITUTION IS A WRITTEN DOCUMENT THAT SETS OUT THE WAY THAT AUSTRALIA IS TO BE GOVERNED AND THE LAWS OF AUSTRALIA. IT WAS MADE ON THE 1st OF JANUARY IN 1901.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT
THE CONSTITUTION IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE WITHOUT IT NOBODY WOULD FOLLOW THE LAWS, PEOPLE WOLD MAKE UP LAWS AS THEY GO AND BECAUSE IT IS HOW AUSTRALIA CAME INTO AFFECT (WAS BORN)

WHAT IS IT
THE SEPARATION OF POWERS IS A MODEL FOR THE GOVERNANCE OF A STATE.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT
THE SEPARATION OF POWERS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE WITHOUT IT, ONE GROUP OR PERSON WOULD HOLD ALL OF THE POWER AND COULD BECOME CORRUPT.

WE SEPARATE POWER BY HAVING MORE THAN ONE BRANCH, AND LEVEL OF GOVERNMENT. THIS ALSO HELPS TO SPREAD OUT THE RESPONSIBILITIES

REASONS WHY WE NEED TO SEPARATE POWER:
WE NEED TO SEPARATE THE POWER BECAUSE IF JUST ONE GROUP OR PERSON HAS ALL OF THE POWER, THEY COULD GET GREEDY AND BECOME CORRUPT.
BRANCHES OF GOVERNMENT
THERE ARE THREE BRANCHES OF GOVERNMENT IN AUSTRALIA, THEY ARE CALLED THE: LEGISLATIVE, JUDICIARY AND EXECUTIVE.
THE CONSTITUTION
THE CONSTITUTION IS A WRITTEN DOCUMENT ESTABLISHED IN 1901 STATING THE RULES AND LAWS FOR AUSTRALIAN CITIZENS. IT ALSO SETS OUT HOW AUSTRALIA SHOULD BE GOVERNED.

WHAT IS A DOUBLE MAJORITY?
A DOUBLE MAJORITY IS WHERE BOT, THE MAJORITY OF AUSTRALIA AND THE MAJORITY OF FOUR OF THE STATES (MAJORITY OF STATES) HAVE TO HAVE THE SAME ANSWER ON THE ISSUE BEING VOTED ON.
WHAT IS A REFERENDUM?
A REFERENDUM IS WHEN THE CITIZENS OF AUSTRALIA THAT ARE OLD ENOUGH TO VOTE (18+) ALL VOTE ON CHANGING A LAW THAT IS WRITTEN IN THE CONSTITUTION..
WHY DO WE CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION?
WE CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION BECAUSE TIMES CHANGE, SO THE LAWS HAVE TO CHANGE.
HOW DO WE CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION?
WE CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION BY HAVING A REFERENDUM.

WHAT WAS THE RESULT?
THE RESULT FROM THIS REFERENDUM WAS THAT 90.2% VOTED 'YES'
WHY WAS THIS REFERENDUM IMPORTANT?
THIS REFERENDUM WAS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT MADE AUSTRALIA A MORE FAIR AND EQUAL NATION.
WHAT WAS THE ISSUE BEING VOTED ON?
IN 1967 A REFERENDUM WAS HELD TO INCLUDE INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIANS (ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDERS) I THE CONSTITUTION.
UNSUCCESSFUL REFERENDUM (1999)
WHAT WAS THE RESULT?
THE RESULTS FOR THE 1999 REFERENDUM WERE THAT 54.87% VOTED NO AND 45.13% VOTED YES TO BECOMING A REPUBLIC.
WHAT WAS THE ISSUE BEING VOTED ON?
THE ISSUE BEING VOTED ON IN THE 1999 REFERENDUM WAS WHETHER OR NOT AUSTRALIA SHOULD BREAK OFF FROM THE UK AND TRANSFORM FROM A CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCHY TO A REPUBLIC AND SWAP THE QUEEN OUT FOR A PRESIDENT.
