Skeletal System (Name & types of bones (Parietal (back of brain) flat,…
Skeletal System
-
Long Bone
Epiphysis
the end of a long part of a bone bone or any part of a bone separated from the main body of an immature bone of cartilage.
Diaphysis
The shaft or central part of a long bone (it contains a marrow filled cavity surrounded by a compact bone)
-
Periosteum
The fibrous, cellular, vascular, and highly sensitive life support health for bone.
Cancellous (spongy) bone
Cancellous (spongy) bone consists of interwoven beams of bone in the epiphyses of long bones, bodies of vertebrae, and other bones without cavities
-
-
Red Marrow
A red, gelatinous composed of red and white blood cells
-
-
Compact Bone
-
-
Harversian canals
Passageways that run parallel to the long axis of the bone ¢ral canals are lined with endosteum that contain blood vessels, nerves, and loose ct.
Lacunae
Small canals that outline a lamellae and run parallel to the central canal in a circular fashion.Space within is occupied by the osteocyte cell bodies.
-
Osteocyte
Osteoblasts surrounded by bony matrix (trapped cell). Cells are inactive but produce matrix to assist in bone maintenance.
-
Bone Remodeling
-
-
-
Compression
When bones are pressed between body’s weight & ground, stimulates bone disposition.
-
-
Bone Fracture Repair
-
-
Hematoma Formation
When a bone breaks, blood vessels in the bone and periosteum are torn and form a blood clot (hematoma)
-
Joints
-
Synovial
-
-
-
Pivot
Conical surface of one bone articulates with a depression of another; rotation about a central axis rotational movement
-
-
Ball and Socket
Rounded convex surface of one bone articulates with cuplike socket of another; movement in all planes and rotation
-
Fibrous
-
-
Suture
edges of articulating bones, separated by a thin layer of fibrous tissue; no movement
Male vs. Female Pelvis
Male: Small bones with heavy & thick bones. Long & narrow sacrum. Heart shaped pelvic. Immovable coccyx. Vertical Ilium. V-shaped pubic arch. Narrow sciatic notch.
Female: Big & wide with dense bones.Sacrum is short less curved. Oval shape pelvic. Flexible & straight coccyx.Ilium less less vertical. Wide pubic arch. Wide sciatic notch.
