Lack of Responsibility
Tier 1
Assign a classroom job: this gives students responsibility and a sense of ownership in the classroom
Natural consequences: By showing the student the natural consequences of their actions, they can see for themselves how their actions affect themselves and others. ie: if they don't do the hw, they don't understand the topic or if they don't clean up their mess, they become incapable of working in that space.
Do unfinished work during recess or unstructured time: this holds students accountable for not doing work or not finishing their work in the allotted time because they were distracted or fooling around.
Talk one on one with student: Making a personal connection with the student and explaining to them one-to-one why they need to take responsibility for their actions can be very effective.
Data Tracking Tools: Card Flip Tracking Form. Having a visual representation of how the student is doing via effort and responsibility is good to keep the student accountable.

Tier 3
Behavior Meetings: periodic one-to-one meetings with the teacher, counselor, administration, and parents can help the student see the seriousness of their actions.
Behavior Contract: If students are having trouble with the self-evaluation. A behavior contract with stated rules and norms outlined for the student might be a more direct option for the student. Student can provide input as well when designing the behavior contract.
Check in Check out (CICO): Continuing CICO with the student to create accountability and continuity in the observance of the behavior is paramount in keeping the problematic behavior in check.
Counselor Referral: Sometimes you need an extra pair of eyes and some professional support. A counselor can be a great resource for providing techniques for the student to perform better in the classroom.
