Unit 4 Chemical Reactions
Chemical Equations
Reactants/Reagents: a substance that takes part in and undergoes change during a reaction.
products: a substance that is formed by reactants
coefficient: the large number before a formula that shows how many particle.(atoms, molecules, and formula units)
Types chemical reactions
single replacement: A + BC ----------> AC + B
double replacement: AB + CD ---------> AD + CB
synthesis: A + B -------> AB
decomposition: AB ---------> A + B
combustion: fuel + O2 -------> CO2 + H2O
By energy
Endothermic: a reaction that absorbs heat.
Exothermic: A reaction that releases heat
Balancing
Hydrocarbon: a nonmetallic element that is the simplest and lightest of the elements and that is normally a colorless odorless highly flammable diatomic gas
precipitate: an insoluble solid that emerges from a liquid solution.
aqueous: is a solution in which the solvent is water.
Chemical Reactions: Formation of new chemical bonds (Ionic or covalent) among the chemical species in action
Chemical formula: Written representation of an element or a compound
Chemical equation: Written representation of a reaction that uses coefficients and formulas
