Research put simply: helps individuals/ professionals find answers to their questions. It may follow an informal-, scientific-, evidence based- or conventional standard method.
When undertaking a research study you imply:
Uses methods, techniques and procedures tested for their validity and reliability.
Designed to be unbiased and objective.
It is undertaken within framework of set philosophies.
What does research mean to professions:
Critical examining of daily professional activities.
Helps to understand and formulate principles that govern procedures.
Helps develop and test theories to promote and advance professional practice.

In a professional career setting research questions may:
Provide insight into more effective administration and methods ex. Stock controller in business (which form of data entry is most user friendly?)
Provide information to formulate strategic future plans for businesses or practices ex. CEO or manager of department (which suppliers will be used to ensure profitability and sustainability remain high?)
Provide insight to more efficient forms of business operation ex. during marketing campaigns (which target market is most profitable?)
Provide answers to relevant theoretical questions ex. a psychologist determining relationship between patient behavior and medication use.
Provide answers to generally asked questions from other individuals/ professionals. (ex. consumers asking questions)
Research allows the collection of sound, reliable and accurate information about the effectiveness of your practices.
