Student Support Process at ISB How to Identify and Help Struggling…

- - - - Early Signs of a Learning Disability or Learning Disorder
        
        What do I do if I need help coming up with ideas on how to better support a student?
        
        Talk to Your Grade Level Team - Tap into the experience and expertise of your teaching team, LS and EAL Specialist and brainstorm strategies.
        
        Try out the strategies for 4-6 weeks and document their effectiveness.
        
        Teacher contacts parents to share their child's present level of performance.
        
        Go to Step 2
- - - - Teacher sends the SOC Form to the appropriate grade leveled counselor and once reviewed the counselor arranges a meeting with the teacher team.
        
        Go to Step 3
  - - - Brainstorm strategies based on data and determine:
        
        Who will support implementation of the strategies.
        
        Whether the student needs support based on school assessment results such as MAP, (Measurement of Academic Progress) or DRA (Diagnostic Reading Assessment).
        
        What are the best instructional, behavioral, and social strategies.
        
        If further support might be needed and by whom.
        
        Support can include:
        Ongoing classroom strategies
        Early Intervention
        ELS
        Tier 2 or 3 Learning Support
        Counseling
        Therapy (speech, OT etc)
        Additional Evaluation or assessments
        Outside Referral
        
        Go to Step 4
    - - Schedule a meeting with the parents where the plan for moving forward is shared.
        
        Sharing Concerns-If you suspect a

        This meeting will include the classroom teacher, counselor, learning support, as well as the assistant principal and parents.
        
        Gather further data with the parents. They may be able to provide information on thier obserations at home that match what you are seeing in school.
        SCARED
        
        Everyone in this meeting becomes a part of the "team" and works together to implement strategies through ongoing partnerships.
        
        Follow-up with parents within 6-8 weeks to assess progress.
