Why
Americans With Disability Act applies to State Governments under Title II
C.R.S. 24-85-103 requires that state agencies use compatible technology systems
government agencies routinely make much more information about their programs, activities, and services available to the public by posting it on their websites. ADA
Online delivery of legal information has increased access to justice for most constituents but can also make accessible delivery less available for marginalized populations REI-ANDERSON
Best practices
Images should have text equivalents ADA & REI-ANDERSON
Documents and Forms need to be available in RTF or HTML in addition to image-based formats such as PDF (ADA)
Fonts and Colors
Do not specify/force Fonts and Colors (ADA)
Use sans serif fonts in 12 pt with high contrast color schemes (black and white are best) (MICHALSKA)
Videos/Multimedia need features that make them accessible, ie. text transcription for audio impaired and audio cues (such as for scene changes) for visually impaired ADA & REIS-ANDERSON
Avoid flashing or blinking features (ADA & REIS-ANDERSON)
Test Website periodically and program new content with accessible in mind. Testing should be manual and automatic (ADA, REIS-ANDERSON, & MICHALSKA)
