seven tools of TQM
check sheets. any kind of a form designed for recording data so patterns are easily seen while data are being taken
scatter diagram. shows relationship between 2 measurements. if closely related, data points will form a tight band. if random pattern results, items are unrelated
fish-bone chart (cause-and-effect). identify quality issues causes (material, machinery/equipment, manpower, methods)
pareto charts. organizing errors, problems, or defects to help focus on problem-solving efforts. pareto indicates which problems may yield the greatest payoff
flowcharts. presents a process or system using annotated boxes and interconnected lines. great tool for making sense of/explaining a process
-
statistical process control. monitor standards, make measurements, take corrective action as product is being produced
-
total quality management. management of an entire organization so that it excels in all aspects of products and services
continuous improvement
-
never-ending process of continuous improvement that covers people, equipment, suppliers, materials, and procedures
six sigma. program designed to reduce defects to help lower costs, save time, and improve customer satisfaction
-
benchmarking. develop a target at which to shoot and then develop a standard/benchmark against which to compare performance
-
taguchi concepts
quality robustness. products that can be produced uniformly and consistently in adverse manufacturing and environmental conditions. remove the effects of adverse ,manufacturing and environmental conditions
quality loss function identifies all costs connected with poor quality and shows how these costs increase as the product moves away from being exactly what the customer wants. Loss = Distance^2 x Cost
