Began writing at 9; her first short story was published when she was fifteen. Growing up reading fiction.
Witwatersrand Universit, without receiving a degree. Even though she received 10 honorary doctorates in literature from various universities around the world.
Father: Isidore Gordimer, Jewish jeweller from Latvia
Mather: Nan Myers, was of British descent
