SUSTAINABILITY OF NATURAL RESOURCES
Natural resources
Anything in nature that people value
Air, water, fossil fuels, plants, and animals are natural resources
plastics are not natural resources
there are two types which are: renewable and non-renewable
Reducing, reusing, and recycling help conserve our resources
Soil
Erosion moves the sediments to other places.
soil is made from rock, water, air and humus
Weathering breaks rocks into small pieces (sediments)
More humus helps plants grow in broken down rock sediments
Soil has different layers, the top layer contains the most humus
plants cannot grow in bedrock so we must take care of the top layer of soil.
air pollution
Air pollution can come from different places, such as cars
Burning fossil fuels release poisonous gases, such as CO2
Air pollution can sometimes cause cancer and global warming
Ozone, when its up high, protects us from the sun. When its near us its poisonous to us
chemicals in the sky can mix with the clouds, this causes acid rain
Cows produce lots of methane, which is a greenhouse gas
Conserving our resources will cause less air pollution
population growth
in about 10 years there will be over 8 billion people on earth
more humans on earth causes pollution and our resources are running out quicker
About 200 years ago the population increased immensly
Earth can only support a certain amount of people
recycling is a great way to conserve our resources
Climate Change/Global warming
Global warming is about the increasing temperature of the earth
Earths climate changes naturally, but humans are causing it to happen faster
Greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, trap heat in our atmosphere
Burning fossil fuels adds more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere
cutting down trees stops the earth from cooling down
Global warming leads to lots of problems, such as bad weather and diseases
We can stop climate change by using less fossil fuels, conserving energy, and using renewable resources.
greenhouse effect
Greenhouse gases make the earth warmer
some of the suns heat goes back into space
Greenhouse gases, such as CO2, absorb and trap the heat on earth
earth warms and cools down naturally, but too many gases causes global warming
gases made by living organisms, such as CO2 and methane, are the main causes or global warming.
Humans and The Environment
The 3 things you can do to help the environment is conserving, cleaning up, and chiming in
During the Industrial Revolution. there were more people and more population
In the last 200 years, humans have greatly impacted the environment
Using nonrenewable resources causes lots of pollution and they will eventually run out.
For our survival, we need to contribute to saving the environment.
