Types of Bones
long bones:
tibia, fetus, fibula, metatarsals, phalanges, humerus, radios, ulna, metacarpals
short bones:
carpals and tarsals
flat bones:
all in cranium, pelvis, sternum, rib cage
irregular:
vertebrae, sacrum, coccyx, temporal, mandible, palatine, maxilla, sphenoid, ethmoid, zygomatic, hyoid
Bone Fracture Repair
2) Fibrocartilage callus forms:
blood vessels grow into the clot
3) Bony Callus Forms: spongy bone begins to form
1) Hematoma Forms:
clots blood at fracture sight
4) Bone Remodeling:
compact bone is laid down
Joints
fibrous:
sutures between skull
cartilaginous: sternum
synovial:
pivot, hinge, saddle, plane, ball and socket
disorders
Osteoporosis:
bones become brittle and fragile due to loss of tissues usually a result of vitamin D or calcium deficiency
Paget's: most common in elderly people as bone tissue begins to disintegrate, usually in the spine, skull and pelvis
Osteomalacia and Rickets:
Both are impaired due to lack of mineralization of the bone but the differences are that Osteomalacia is lack of osteoid and tickets is lack of vitamin D
Bone Remodeling
Done Deposition:
the osteoid becomes calcified
Bone Resportion:
move along surface breaking down the bone matrix
Control of Remodeling:
maintaining homeostasis
Microscopic Anatomy of Compact Bone Tissue:
Osteon is consisted of concentric rings of calcium metric called lamallae
Differences Between Male and Female Pelvis:
The female pelvis is wider and more broad as the male pelvis is more narrow, compact and taller.
