Students explore online art gallery and choose piece to examine more closely. Students write about art piece or artifact discussing what they think the artist is trying to convey while also reflecting on their personal feelings towards the artifact.
Subject: Science
Using the Buffalo Trails Public School site, students design their own Tipi. This could be Part One of the assignment, and you could build off this by having student research other techniques to build a Tipi and then bring in craft supplies to have students experiment building based on their research
Subject: Social Studies
Give students a Blank map of Canada and have students research and label the different Treaty areas
Content Creation/ Media Sharing
Subject: Art
Students can respond personally to a FNMI story that has been introduced to the class through an art project. This can relate to characters in the story, the setting, etc. Require that students must use some materials from the the land (outdoor materials) to create their project. Student will use iPads to capture "snaps" of their working progress and post it on their class Snapchat story for their peers, teacher, and parents to view.
Subject: Math
Students will create a math problem based on the topic they are learning (ex. prime numbers) and integrate the Aboriginal technique of storytelling. They can do this in partners and will do this through the platform "Explain Everything". Be sure to introduce the idea and include examples of storytelling prior to this lesson. After pair of students present their story/math problem, their peers must work to solve it.
Subject: Social Studies
Students create a presentation regarding the history of Residential schools to their peers using their technology of choice (ex. Powerpoint, MySimpleShow, Canva, Explain Everything etc.)
Quest Work
Subject: Social Studies
Create a quest through the platform Rezzly that allows students to research traditions of specific Indigenous groups and present in some form of project to their peers
Subject: Science
Use Rezzly to develop a quest that requires students to visit the Buffalo Trails Public Schools and work through making a "Tanning Hide"
Subject: English Language Arts
Create a quest that allows students to explore the concept of Residential schools through picking a corresponding book and creating a Kahoot quiz to teach and quiz their peers on concepts and the text
