Yr 7 Civics and cistizenship
Week 1
The 6 concepts.
The Westminster system
The Westminster is a form of parlimentry government from the UK. Australia's system of government : lower house, head of state, head of government.
Justice
Can mean different things for different people in Australia it means fairness.
Participation
Refers to good citizens that take part in society by voting in elections, protesting and contacting members of parliament.
Demorcacy
A democracy is a system of government run by the people for the people, electing people who will represent them in government.
Democratic values
Beliefs and values that are held by our society. They represent equality, fairness and freedom. We are free to protest if we don't agree.
Rights and responsibilities
Entitlements and duties of citizens our rights let us have a say on how Australia is run.
week two
The Constitution of Australia is the supreme law under which the government of the Commonwealth of Australia operates the constitution was made in 1901.
Legistative they make laws
Executive put laws into action
Judiciary they judge laws
Govenor general
The governor general is appointed by the queen to pass law that's are rights and can help Australia be better.
Two houses of parliment
The two houses of parliament are the senate and house of reps.
The house of reps currently has 151 members each represent a electoral division.
The senate share the power to make laws with the other house of parliament.
Week 3
Seperation of power
the separation of power includes ;legislative,executive and judiuary they all have separate jobs.
Revison for test
levels of government, the constitution, six concepts, federation, separation of power and the Westminster system.
Why we need the separation of power
So on group doesn't have all the power so the people do not become corrupt.

Australia to change into a republic?
54% voted no to the vote
Australia would have to restart if vote was yes
The successful reerendum
voted on indigenous people rights
More than 90% percent of people voted yes
IT was important because all people should have the same amount of rights and knowone should be treated differently because of the colour of their skin
Changing the constitution
Referendum
A referendum is were people come together to change a law
The constitution may need to be changed because times change and thing may not mean the same thing now.
Double majority
a double majority is were half of each state and at least four states have to vote yes.
The constitution can get changed by people voting in a referendum.
