Supervisory meeting - 16th October 2019
Lit review
Happy with draft submissions so far
Well written but needs some tightening up
Replace one section with a diagram showing changing papers
Incorporate other feedback too and return quickly
Write little and often to allow time for feedback
Go ahead and draft up method and send to them while fresh in mind
Little Solsbury
Draft proposal for future work
Ask for destructive permissions to allow thin-sectiong and possible SEM-EDS
While it may not come to this, it might be usefully retained as part of a future reference or teaching collection
This includes testing the fabric groups by thin-section petrography, and analysing the daub/fired clay for provenancing vs Roman CBM
Results of this will determine if similar or same clay sources are being exploited by Roman CBM industries or not
In turn, gives no link or some link answers depending on success, which is win-win even if it only constitutes a small paragraph in the final thesis
Submit this proposal draft to supervisors ahead of sending it on to Linda
Standards
Forward standard quotes to Derek and Damian and for purchase
Pursue in-house standards from Durham
Analyse different limestones with pXRF first to check trace/minor elements within to create overlapping suite for calibration
Is there a need for extensive calibration at this stage (by which the PhD is meant)?
Something to discuss down the line in 2nd or 3rd year
Next supervisory meeting is in a months timeish at Bath on 14th November
Prepare powerpoint presentation for Stephen's benefit to show progress since last meeting
Chase up Stephen about both marble analyses and if Maurice can come to lunch with us too
Risk assessment also passed so can finally begin working on samples!
Get coring process underway too, as booking Cliveden and drilling will take a long time
Use time up in Bath to do stuff Baths or in Bristol as well if possible
