Trustworthy narration
Individuals who narrate in an honest way, often inadvertently self deprecative are perceived as trustworthy
Gosling = trusted
seen as naive 'doesn't realise at first ... then leaves' 'much longer to get my doctorate' 'my mother has her theories but we won't get into those'
Maids = trusted
already have 'little value' so have no concern for 'reputation' hence are trusted as have nothing to gain or lose
