Pierre's favorite learning methods
Practical
learn from simulations
learn by trial and error
learn by challenging myself to reach a new level of performance
learn by recording my performance (audio/video)
Logical-Theoretical
learn about ideas bby connecting them to what you already know
learn by creating conceptual maps of relationships among items or ideas
learn by thinking metaphorically : link the known to the unknown
learn by grouping, categorizing and clarifying
My situated learning methodology in two steps
Practice closely and then widely
Isolate : Identify precisely the concept/idea/fact that I'm learning. Then identify its main implicit concepts/ideas/facts. Isolate the new learning unit from these implicits. Check and formulate as much as possible : are the implicits perfectly clear to me ? Can I distingish exactly the new learning unit and how it is built upon them ?
Practice : Now that I am sure I have a clear view of the learning unit, I practice it with all the necessary repetition (drill).
Appropriate : I think, design, create and make something concrete that involve all the learning units that I learned. Connect all these new things in the making of something that has a sense.
Read, Interpret & Organize
Discover the source of knowledge (a lesson, a book, a talk,...) actively : a. write down notes, questions, make links,... b. filter visually : use colors or features to underline, highlight,...
Organize & structure this new knowledge : make a dynamic table of content (with URL) or a mindmap. The point is double : a. to favorise the memorization by having a global view of the new knowledge b. to have an easy access to all its learning units for when I will be practicing them.
Reflexive
learn by thinking for myself (forming opinions, reaching conclusions)
learn intuitively (discover what I know instinctively)
learn by observing intensely
learn from observing myself (thoughts, emotions, actions)
learn by keeping a working journal of ideas, plans and reflexions
(!!!) fixed mindset ==> growth mindset (!!!)
