modern gold mining destroys landscapes and creates huge amounts of toxic waste Due to the use of open pit mining and cyanide heap leaching, mining companies generate about 20 tons of toxic waste for every 0.333-ounce gold ring. The waste is usually a gray liquid, and is full of deadly cyanide and toxic heavy metals. Many gold mines directly dump their toxic waste into bodies of water, destroying coral and marine life.

Uses of gold
Gold is used in electronics and computers. This is because gold is one of the best conductors and can conduct charges of electricity. Because of this property gold is found in small amounts in electronics devices such as computers and phones.
Jewelry and ornamental objects is one of the primary uses of gold. About 78% of all mined gold is used to make jewelery. Because of its high luster, color, tarnish resistance, and malleablity gold is one of the most highly desired metals for jewelry. https://geology.com/minerals/gold/uses-of-gold.shtml
Medicine and Dentistry. - Gold is used in dentistry because of its performance and aesthetic appeal. Gold alloys are used for fillings, crowns, and other orthodontic appliances. Gold is also chemically inert and non allergic making it easier to work with. Gold is known to have been used in dentistry as early as 700 B.C. Etruscan "dentists" used gold wire to fasten replacement teeth into the mouths of their patients. Gold was probably used to fill cavities in ancient times; however, there is no documentation or archaeological evidence for this use of gold until a little over 1000 years ago.
