Slip Casting
Involved Stages
- Slurry, suspension or slip of ceramic body composition is poured into a porous mould
- Water is extracted into the mould through pores or voids
- Solid layer is formed on the surface of mould
- Excess slip is then removed (except for solid cast)
Advanatges
- Able to produce products of big and bulky dimensions and also of complex shape that other methods are unable to
- Able to produce hollow products
-
- High reproducibility rate with smooth surface and fine details to original design
- Able to produce products with any form of ceramic suspension (provided the concentration is chemically stable)
Disadvantages
- Cast and working mould must be in dry condition
- Long processing time (depends on the thickness and complexity of cast)
- Requires large working area
- Preferential alignment problem when clay is used

Requirement of slurry
-
-
-
- Stable chemical composition
