SLIP CASTING
Stages involved
- Excess slip removed (except solid cast)
- Pouring of slurry/suspension/slip of ceramic body composition into a porous mould.
- Extraction of water into moulds through pores or voids in mould.
- Forming of solid layer on surface of mould.

Importance
Criterion
Slip enable requires high solid content with controlled amount of water with suitable level of viscosity.
Produced cast with good properties such as dense solid with good green strength and not easily cracks
-
Deflocculant
Enable the slip to be prepared with high solid content in a small amount of water without compromising the viscosity
Example : Na silicate, Na Hexametaphosphate, Dispex and CMC
Measured using
Torsional Viscometer
The Brookfield Viscometer

Advantages : High quality cast, Longer mould life and deform shape reduced
