American Studies: Culture operates off of multiple scales of social cohesion. The larger the group, the more difficult it is to use. In the face of the Ferguson protests, we see the idea of American culture at its most cumbersome and unwieldy as group from entirely different backgrounds and histories clash with each other. Studying this event involves situating within even a larger context, like past black liberation movements, as well as clashes similar to it, and using this to truly understand how it effect our nation, and our own consciousness in the world.
