Almost always used in a formula, not alone. Used because it is soothing and "coats" .

Leaves are used as poultices and fomentations
Soothes and absorbs - extracts excess moisture
For eye inflammation - combine with raspberry leaves and bathe affected eye 6 times per day
Can delay absorption of other drugs when taken together
