Fantasy and Delusion

ideas.
her drinking alcohol doesn't fit in with her character as she plays the part of a southern belle - a woman is who is pure and civilised.
she could be drinking to escape the reality of the world she lives in and enter a more fantasy world where she believes everything is fine and there are no problems.
the names of the places are real however the journey from Desire to Cemeteries is allegorical and foreshadows Blanche's mental descent chronologically through the play.
at the start of the play, by coming to to stay with Stanley and Stella, she has reached the end of the line with her fantasy-like desires.
Blanche has long been trying to get back Belle Reve but couldn't and her every failed attempt brought her closer to building a fantasy world in her mind. she believes that things like flirting and putting herself in the centre would bring back her status of being a southern belle.
Blanche is shown to be clinging to the illusory world she built and constantly trying to get away from reality. she keeps wearing satin robes to bring back that sense of civility she had when Belle Reve was still present. by keeping up appearances for mostly herself, she can still see herself as as she once was - a southern belle. by not accepting reality, she hopes to hide troubled mind from herself and the rest of the world.
