introduction
Arginus decided to send a ship and fifty-two brave men to send Odysseus back to his hometown. There was a lot of dancing and singing and all kinds of sports. Someone challenged Odysseus and he threw the discus. The singer sings of Odysseus' quarrel with Achilles, of ares' affair with Aphrodite, and of the eventual destruction of the city by a Trojan horse. Odysseus sighs, and arginus asks him why.
Odysseus, guided by Athena to the palace, was told to pray to areta. Along the way, the dazzling palace and the history of its people are introduced. Odysseus explains the situation to aritus and arginus, who says he can marry his daughter and won't stop him if he wants to return home.
