First Nations (during the Oka Crisis) Perspective:
First of all, how dare the Europeans say that the land is not ours, but in fact theirs for the taking? We have been living on this land for generations, even before the country was established! Although the land doesn’t officially belong to us, we were the ones who discovered it in the first place. Second of all, it is beyond disrespectful to think that people who are ignorant of our culture will dig up our dead and cut down the sacred pine forest that we have planted with our own hands (Gabriel). The Europeans understand nothing of our customs, so they should not tamper with it. We are ready to fight for what we believe in, and protect our home as we have been doing for centuries.
