A museum in Alexandria contained a small observatory of the planets and stars. Aristarchus of Samos, a famous astronomer, estimated that the Sun was at least 300 times larger than the Earth, although smaller than Greece. However, other astronomers did not approve of his thoughts, and Ptolemy, another astronomer, had placed the Earth at the center of the solar system and the Sun and planets revolve around the Earth.
