Euthanasia
Santity of Life
This is when people believe that life has an intrisic value due to something for example christians believe in this as God gave us a soul
Non-religious people may also believe in this due to people being rational reasonable beings or a part of the eco-system
Bible can support this in Genisis 1, but challanges santity of life as God sends people to war eg in Abraham
This is an arguement against Euthanasia as if life is sacred then life should not be taken away as it has value
If life is anything less than sacred then what makes human life anymore meaningful than an ants as a result why should we have rights leading to geniside
It can also be seen as moreal to take life for example Hittler and muderers if they bring a larger threat to human life, which arises the question how valueable is life
Quality of Life
Some people may argue if the person has such a poor quality of life then it should be exeptable for them to be euthanised as they should not be compelled to live unatraly
This is commonly considered with animals but not humans due to intrinsic value. However it is considered to be crule to keep an animal alive
Can be used as a counter arguement to santity of life as it takes into account how much pleasure and mental wellbeing of the person and whether the life is worth living or not
Personhood
therefore if somone does not have compleat brain funtion or in some way inhibited to funtion should they be considered a human
Psychologists argue to be aperson need to be self aware and have ability to reason, others say that a person only needs to be human, others say personhood is a slideing scale which one could move aone depending on their level of reason
What makes a living thing a person? as a result if a living thing is no longer a person then does the same rules of intrinsic value apply eg rights

Cons
-
medical advancemets make it hard to draw a line between natral and unatral means of keeping someone alive
Foundationalism says that they base their ideas of a underliying premis ( God exists) if this is not proven through reason there arguement is based of unreasoned premis
