Primary Sector
Evolution
Today a third of the world population work in this sector but this number is drastically decreasing
In developed countries: the primary sector has 1 to 6% of the active population and 4% of the GDP.
In developing countries: 50% of the active population and 10% of the GDP.
In non-developed countries: 80% of the active population and 50% of the GDP.
Making direct using and explotation of natural resources to abtain raw materials
Agriculture
The agriculture is the science and occupation of cultivating the land and creating crops for human and animal consumption
Natural factors
Climate: Differents climate can affect temperature precipitations, sun exposure, etc
Landscape: This means the relief, to much gradient and altitude makes agriculture impossible
Soil: The differents types of soil can affect the grain, size, the composition of crops...
Human factors
Irrigation and greenhouses:
the efficent use of water improves productivity in the fields, and greenhouses allow crops to grow in inhospitable zones.
Chemical and biological techniques:
chemicals make the soil more fertile and pesticides destroy pests. Genetic engineering make crops more resistant and productive.
Machanization
: the introduction of machines has made harvesting faster and easier. Less people are needed.
High mechanization.
Specialization/monocultures.
Less manual labour
Use of irrigation, greenhouse, chemicals, and biological techniques
Traditional farming
Limited mechanization.
Dependency on manual and animal
labour.
Low productivity
