Reaction Kinetics
-
Increasing the concentration of one or more reactants will often increase the rate of reaction. This occurs because a higher concentration of a reactant will lead to more collisions of that reactant in a specific time period.
-
Increasing the temperature would favor endothermic reactions and reducing the temperature would lead to a more effective exothermic reaction.
A catalyst is a substance that accelerates a reaction by participating in it without being consumed. Catalysts provide an alternate reaction pathway to obtain products.

Structures
-
-
-
Giant Covalent Bonds
-
Arranged into giant regular lattices - extremely strong structures because of the many bonds involved.
Diamond: hardest known substance, used for drill, cutting and jewellery
Graphite : Soft, dark in colour, conducts electricity. Used in electrodes
Silica : hard, lets light through, high melting point, used in sandpaper, used in making glass used in bricks

Balancing Equations
-
-
The number of atoms on the left hand side of the equation has to be the same on the right hand side for the equation ot be balanced
