The term renaissance is derived from the French word renaissance. People were aware that the world was in a new era, they appreciated again the literature, philosophy and classical Greco-Roman art.
HUMANISM
It became a way of thinking and living that revolved around a main idea: in the center of the universe is man, image of God
ITALIAN HUMANIST
Leonardo Bruni proposed to train students for an active life of service by providing them with knowledge, ethical principles and the capacity for oral and written expression.
Nicolas Machiavelli, founder of political science, who wrote the first dealt with how to conquer power and keep it.
Flavio Biondo were the initiators of modern historiography
Leonardo da Vinci is considered one of the greatest geniuses of all time.
DIFFUSION OF HUMANISM FOR EUROPE
The rapid diffusion of Italian humanism was due to:
- The printing press
- The epistolary relationship between men of European letters; and the first universities.
Other figures of humanism in Europe were :
-Thomas More (1478-1535), who visualized a perfect society in his book Utopia
- François Rabelais (1494-1553), who composed one of the first novels (Gargantua and Pantagruel).
- Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543), the Polish scientist.
TRAITS
The capital feature of Renaissance humanism was anthropocentrism, in the consideration that everything revolves around man.
TODAY
Humanism continues in force in any doctrine whose fundamental principle is respect.
The important thing is that the human being must be the center of all concerns.
