processes in science
step 1: making an observation
step 2: formulating an hypothesis
step 3: making a prediction
step 4: testing the prediction
Who were some famous scientist?

discover that bacteria make beer and milk turn sour
Marie Curie
chemistry and physics
discovered radium and polonium
Daniel Tsui Chyu
physics
new form of quantum fluid with fractionally charged excitations
attitudes needed in science
creative
look for new ways to solve problems
imaginative
think and make metal pictures that we cannot see or do not know
humble
not being too proud
willing to admit that I am wrong and change my ideas

showing care and concern for living things and the environment
What is science?
Science is the study of the natural and physical world
how does science affect our lives?
harmful effects of technology
causes disturbance to others when we use our phones at inappropriate places or times
we could get abused through social media if we are not careful of what we say
plastic products are not biodegradable products, causes pollution of land and water if not disposed properly
the increase in the number of cars on the road leads to an increase in the amount of harmful gas, contributing to air pollution
what can we do
be considerate when using our phones
protect ourselves by not putting too much personal information on the internet
reducing plastic waste, choose more biodegradable products instead of plastic products
we can walk or cycle or short distances to reduce the harmful gases produced
useful effects of technology
development of mobile phone give us convenience of communicating anytime and anywhere
advancement of technology allow us to share information, personal ideas and thoughts through the internet and social media
development of plastic has provided us with lightweight and waterproof materials
development of cars allow us to travel faster and over long distances
how do we find out in science
observing
quantitative
specific number
qualitative
relating to, measuring or measured by the quality of something rather than its quantity
thinking skills
formulating hypothesis
making a smart guess
predicting
making a prediction
posing questions
inferring
something new that we have to work out based on information we already have
communicating
measuring
using instruments
independent variable = changed variable
dependent variable = measured variable
constant variable
