Great civilizations of Mesoamerica
THE OLMECS, THE FIRST TO FORM STATES
It was the first culture to emerge on the coast of
Mexico, around 1200 B.C. and it would have to be the longest: a thousand years. The first Mesoamerican pyramid was built in its main city, around 1000 BC.
THE ZAPOTECAS
This civilization was developed just around 800 B.C., in the south of Oaxaca and the isthmus of Tehuantepec.
THE MAYAS
The Mayans reached their greatest glory in the 8th century. But in the 9th century, these magnificent cities were completely abandoned at an incomprehensible rate, and the Mayan collapse occurred. The current indigenous inhabitants of Guatemala, Honduras and southern Mexico are descendants of the Mayans. Some historians believe that these cities were abandoned due to years of prolonged drought caused by deforestation to plant corn.
Mexican or Aztecs
Where Mexico City is located today, there was an important pre-Columbian culture in the past. The location of the Pyramid of Teotihuacán is very close to the current location of Mexico City. Mexico, around 1325.
There are important political organizations (empires) in two areas:
Central America, this is a region that extends from central Mexico to Costa Rica and Andean America. These organizations created impressive architecture and artwork.
