Ashley Pattie's Final Product Ideas
Braces Guide
My goal for this product is to help patients feel more comfortable and confident about their orthodontic journey. I hope that providing them with access to a helpful guide will make their treatment more efficient.
Creating a braces guide will allow patients to no longer question what a successful orthodontic treatment is like. They will know what to expect and have an understanding of how they can make straightening their teeth more enjoyable.
I will need an online platform to complete this digital braces guide. I can create a website and use other tools like Canva, Google Forms, etc. to showcase my information.
With my braces guide, my mentor will not have to constantly answer the same common questions that parents typically ask when their child comes for a consultation or has their braces put on. It will make work days for all employees at my mentor's workplace more efficient.
My mentor can help me with creating this braces guide. I can also ask classmates about their experiences with braces. Lastly, I can go to my teachers to get any extra advice/their opinions on how I present the information.
My deadline for this product will be around the end of March or the beginning of April. I want to be sure that the guide is easy to follow and, most importantly, as helpful as possible for the patients and parents.
I will need to contact my mentor to determine what should be included within the braces guide. Additionally, I will conduct surveys with patients and parents to see what common questions should be addressed in my guide.
I will have my mentor distribute condensed printed copies to her patients shortly after I have completed the guide. I will also ask her to send all of her current patients a link to my online guide website through their text message reminder system.
Both patients and parents will gain a better understanding of how to successfully complete orthodontic treatment. Questions can be conveniently answered with a simple guide, which will make an orthodontist's job easier.
My project will be available at my mentor's workplace and accessible from virtually anywhere since the expanded version it will be online on a website that I create.
My mentor, patients, parents, and myself will all be involved in this project. I will work directly with my mentor to determine what should be included within the guide and also gather data and information from patients and parents through surveys.
I will use the internet to find any and all materials for my product. I can use Canva to create a more condensed version and find a website builder to create my expanded guide.
Orthodontic Habit Tracker
My goal for this product is to reduce the amount of time patients spend wearing their braces so they can have their beautiful smile quickly. I also want to instill good oral hygiene habits that they can use throughout the rest of their lives. Lastly, they can guarantee that their smiles last using the habit tracker.
I will need to utilize a digital resource such as Canva or an app creator in order to make this habit tracker effective for all patients. I can use Google Forms to gather information.
My mentor can help me with creating an orthodontic habit tracker by helping me gather information from patients and parents.
My mentor will spend less time treating patients as she will no longer have to constantly remind her patients to wear their rubber bands so they can get their braces off sooner. It will make my mentor happier since her job will be easier and patients will be following the instructions necessary to have an efficient and successful orthodontic treatment.
I will need to contact my mentor to see which issues are most prominent with patient compliance. I will conduct surveys with patients to determine the most efficient ways to help them have a successful treatment.
I will want to have this product completed by the end of March or the beginning of April. This will give me enough time to create an easy to use online and printable version of the habit tracker for patients.
Patients will be greatly impacted by this product. Their treatment time will be reduced, their oral health will be improved, and they will feel happier and more confident. My mentor will spend see a reduction in the average amount of time to complete an orthodontic treatment plan.
I will give my mentor the printable and online versions to distribute to her patients at her workplace and also through social media, text message reminders, etc.
My mentor, patients, and myself will be involved in creating the orthodontic habit tracker. My mentor will assist me in determining the most important habits to keep track of and the patients will give me more insight into how I can help them build these habits.
This product will be available to all patients both at my mentor's workplace and online. They can keep track and hold themselves accountable using their phones, computers, etc.
I will use the internet to create the digital format which will be either an interactive website or an app. Canva will enable me to create printable versions of the habit tracker for patients who do not have access to technology or if they prefer to have a physical copy.
Patient compliance is one of the most prominent issues within orthodontics. Patients are responsible for keeping their teeth clean, wearing rubber bands to make their treatment more efficient, wearing retainers to preserve their smiles, etc. and this habit tracker will help make their orthodontic treatment more successful and encourage the improvement of oral hygiene habits.
