this is extremely useful for humans as they can detect the vulnerabilities of an area and hence help in improving disaster preparation. E-waste
contains a long list of chemicals that are harmful to people and the environment, like: mercury, lead, beryllium. When electronics are mishandled during disposal, these chemicals end up in our soil, water and air. :red_cross:
Used electronics which are destined for refurbishment, reuse, resale, salvage recycling through material recovery, or disposal are also considered e-waste.
Informal processing of e-waste in developing countries can lead to adverse human health effects and environmental pollution.
E-waste is considered the "fastest-growing waste stream in the world" with 44.7 million tonnes generated in 2016- equivalent to 4500 Eiffel towers. In 2018, an estimated 50 million tonnes of e-waste was reported, thus the name ‘tsunami of e-waste’ given by the UN. Its value is at least $62.5 billion annually.
AI Problems
Uncontrolled AI can easily wipe out humanity; it may get to the point of being millions of times smarter than all of humanity put together.
Some AI may have to make difficult moral decisions (e.g: whether to avoid a car crash and hit pedestrians or vice versa).
Philosophical debate: if AI is really conscious, does it have human rights? Would it be right to turn it off?
Artificial intelligence refers to the ability of a computer/robot to perform tasks commonly assosiated with intelligent beings.
An AI, ultimately, has to be programmed by someone, hence it may have bias from the data or training set it is given. For instance Microsoft's Twitter chatbot became racist due to the presence of racist content on the platform.
