Time Zones
There are four time zones in the USA. When it is 9 a.m. in New York City, it is only 6 a.m. in San Francisco. The distance from New York to San Francisco is over 5,000 km.
The Landscape
The landscape of the USA is varied;
there are forests, deserts, mountains and plains.
The three main mountain ranges are the Pacific Range and the Rocky Mountains in the west and the Appalachian Mountains in the east. The tallest peak is Mt. McKinley. It is 6,194 meters tall and is in Alaska.
The climate is also varied, from an arctic climate in Alaska to a subtropical climate in Florida.
The central part of the USA is a vast plain crossed by two of the longest rivers in the country: the Mississippi and Missouri rivers.
There are also many lakes. The largest are along the Canadian border and are called Great Lakes. They are Lake Superior, Lake Michigan,Lake Ontario, Lake Huron, Lake Erie.

- The first president of the USA was George Washington. There is a picture of Washington on the American dollar. The present president of the USA is Joe Biden, the previous ones were Donald Trump and Barack Obama.

The president lives and work in the White Hause in Washington DC, the capital city of the USA.

The White House has 120 rooms and 20 bathrooms. One million people visit every year. The visit is free, but you need to apply for free tickets.
The states include Alaska and Hawaii. Alaska is northwest of Canada and Hawaii is in the Pacific Ocean.
