Computers in the Workplace
Advantages
Automated computers will be able to complete tasks faster and to a higher standard
Increases efficiency in the workplace by allowing better technology to help workers increase productivity
More reliable because they will never have to take
time off for being ill
Can provide jobs for people to maintain and fix the
machines if broken
Having computers makes it easier for teams of workers to share and collaborate on different tasks
Not all jobs are at risk, many rely on humans and would not be able to be automated.
Less jobs could mean that more people could retired earlier
Disadvantages
Heavy Reliance on Data
Many businesses rely so heavily on computers that a power loss or system crash can prove devastating. Valuable files may be lost, sometimes permanently, which can have long-term implications if the files were not backed up with paper or other methods, such as automatic nightly offsite backups or backups on the cloud
Surveillance equipment, key cards, and the increased monitoring of phone and Internet use in the workplace continue to raise issues of employee privacy. Employees may interpret these safeguards as distrust, or feel that everything they do is being watched.Employees may view this as an invasion of their privacy and point to it as an example of being watched by "Big Brother." It can also create an ethical dilemma, pitting the employee's right to privacy against the employer's right to protect herself.
The shift to paperless offices leaves companies vulnerable on two major fronts. The first is that if there is a power outage, electronic data can't be retrieved unless backup files at an offsite location are accessible. Secondly, any type of electronic platform is subject to the threat of computer viruses and hacking. These can compromise vital records, databases and client confidentiality.
machines are faster and accurate therefore take peoples job
Machines run on electricity, which can sometimes be sourced in ways that are bad for the environment :
More machines will be needed. This means that more materials will need to be mined (such as gold and other precious metals) which greatly increases emissions and damages the environment

This is the idea that computer systems can replace the roles of humans in a workplace. Something like a robot or an automated software.
