Experience and Position
Elizabeth had led a very simple life when her father was King, so she was not prepared to become Queen
-
-
Because she was the youngest daughter and last in line, no one ever thought she would become Queen
Illegitimacy
The Pope refused to let Henry VIII divorce Catherine of Aragon, so when Anne Boleyn had Elizabeth she was deemed illegitimate - meaning she was not in line for succession and could not inherit the throne of England
When she eventually became Queen, people believe she was usurper - meaning that the throne did not belong to her. Protestants thought that Elizabeth was the rightful queen as Henry VIII's will stated that she was in line for succession
Illegitimate means that if a child is born when their parents aren't married, they cannot and should not claim the rights to the throne. Catholics believed Elizabeth was the daughter of the "Great Whore" Anne Boleyn
