structure:
Short Sentences.
"Habiba had died.''
This structure helps create a tensed atmosphere to the reader. Its very short, but gives out a sharped tensed feeling. This also gives the reader a shocked emotion on what just happened.
This techniques helps create tension and
curiosity to the reader. The reader would want to know what happened and would want to read more to find out. The readers would want to know who is that face out of a million he did not forget and why?
Small-One lined Paragraph.
"And then there was the face I will never forget."
Ellipsis
" She’d been shot in the leg as the retreating army of the deposed dictator … took revenge on whoever it found in its way."
This Structure helps create a dramatic pause between the writer to the reader. Complete silence. Ellipses also leaves the reader to imagine what will happen net and what are the consequences. A bit of tension.
"In the ghoulish manner of journalists on the hunt for the most striking pictures"
use of words "ghoulish" and "hunt" emphasis how menacing and predatory journalists are as they feed of the suffering of others which indicates that perhaps he is uncomfortable with his role as a journalist

analysis: Due to the civil war that happened there could potentially have been a famine. With the use of the word lonely makes it seem as if they were in a bubble of their own and going through the terrible outcomes of the war on a daily basis.
" betrayed faces" This makes me feel like they have been betrayed by their own country.
they made the war in their country by trying to defend Ethiopia and then the war became in their country

repetition of the word "revulsion" to make it clear that that is what he means - a very honest opinion

It is the list of 3 adjectives that create the pity and empathy that we feel for the situation.
