EYFS STATUTORY FRAMEWORK
WHAT?
The early years foundation stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning,
development and care of your child from birth to 5 years old.
To help children achieve every chid matters outcomes of staying safe, enjoying and achieving, making positive contributioon.
WHO?

All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including
childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes.
HOW/WHERE?
The EYFS only applies to schools and early years providers in England. There are different early yearsstandards in Scotland and Wales.
Free play, indoor-outdoor provision, observation cycle, characteristics of effective learning & principles
WHEN?
The EYFS has been statutory since 2008 and sets standards in learnign and welfare for any carer working with birth to 5 year olds.
This framework was created in repsonse to highlighted good quality childcare supporting child learnign and development. updated inn 2020.

A practitioner must be designated to take lead responsibility for safeguarding children in every setting. Childminders
must take the lead responsibility themselves.

SUITABLE PEOPLE

A practitioner must not be under the influence of any alcohol or substances which may effect ability of care for children.

All staff recieve induction training to help undertsnad their role and responsibilities. EG- safeguarding, child protection, emergancy evacuation ect.

HEALTH

Providers must promote good health of children attending and partnership working with parents and carers for responding to children who are ill or infectious.
Trainign must be provided for staff where adminerstaring medicen requires medical or technical knowledge. EG- diabetic chidlren.
Chidlren must be provided with meals,snacks and drinks which are healthy, balanced and nutritious.
Providers re confident for those who are responsible for preparinf and handling food are competent to do so.
