Cultural Radiance Information Summary
How will you safely make the electronic product? (Top important. Because without knowing this, it is impossible for you to make the product out)
Check that the laser cutter's door is closed when laser cutting.
Do not put any reflective metal around the laser cutter
Get the permission from your supervisor before either laser cutting or soldiering.
Check that the external exhaust system is on before laser cutting
Wear PPE when soldiering
Make sure that the soldiering machine is not damaged
Wear Safety goggles when soldiering
Assume that all metal pieces are hot, don't touch it
Don't wind the cord when soldiering
What are the needs of your clients? (3rd important, because if you know this, you can create connections between the client and the product easily.)
My client is 48 years old, and he is born in Shandong, China.
My client would need to see things like Chinese couplets and Lantern Festival riddles so his childhood and cultural memories could be easily evoked whenever he saw the mood lamp.
Green is his favorite color, so it might also be neccesary to add some green colors onto the product.
When my client heard of the word childhood, the first thing that emerged in his mind is cattle and horses, so I would also add some cattle and horses onto the mood lamp.
I might also add some elements that could represent some other Chinese festivals such as the Mid-autumn Festival because those are also things that could represent my client’s culture.
What main systems/components exist in a simple electronic product? (2nd important, because without knowing this, it is impossible for you to create the product)
Electronics gets its name from the electrons, a tiny particle which forms part of all atoms.
Electric charges make electronic happens.
When electrons move together in a unified way we say there is a current flowing. Electrons are actually moving all the time in materials like metals but moving in a random disordered way. A current is when they all move together in one particular direction.
Capacitor: A two terminal electrical component, it can store energy. It can charge and discharge very quickly.
Diode: A component that allows electricity to flow in only one direction.
Resistor: A component that resist the flow of currents, usually color coded.
Transistor: A component that is often used as an amplifier or as switching device, can turn something on or off immediately.
Relay: A component that can turn something on or off.
Do different cultures use and understand colour in contrasting ways? (4th important, this is important because if you don't know this and accidentally added an unlucky color to your product, your client might get very unhappy)
Yes, different cultures do use and understand colour in contrasting ways.
In Europe, the color red represents danger and anger, which is definitely a negative representation, but in China, red represents joy and luck, which is a positive representation.
In Europe, the color white represents purity, but in Japan, white represents death, the two cultures understand the color in a contrasting way.
In Japan, the color blue, represents villainy, but in China, blue represents strength and power.
Can shape influence light? (5th important, because this could make your product look more fascinating.)
There was a 3D Light show, in the light show, one of the giant lights looked fascinating because of its curved shape, making the centre of the light especially bright, and the other places a bit dimmer than the middle.
In A3, the product that I analyzed is a baseball-bat shaped mood lamp, because of its shape it and the curved textures and lines.
