What is health equity?
Health equity "can be defined as the absence of systemic disparities in health (or in the major social determinants of health) between social groups who have different levels of underlying social advantage/disadvantage" (Braveman & Gruskin, 2002, p. 1)
"Absence of avoidable, unfair, or remediable differences, socially, economically, demographically, or geographically, or by any other means" (APPLHSCI9002, Module 1 Topic 1, 2021)

Equity vs. Equality
Equity
is creating the equal opportunity to be healthy - the absence of disparities in controllable or remediable aspects of health.
Equity in Health --> "elimination of all systematic differences in health status between socioeconomic groups"
(APPLHSCI9002, Module1 Topic 1, 2021)
Equity in Health Care --> "closely match services to the level of need" (APPLHSCI9002, Module1 Topic 1, 2021)
Equality
would mean everyone has the same health outcomes - which is not possible.
