SOCIETY
MIDDLE
The middle class included scribes, who were educated in writing things down using hieroglyphics.
BOTTOM
The bottom class included servants. Servants wore patterned fabrics to distinguish them from the rest of society.
TOP
The top of society included the pharaoh, the nobles, and the upper class. The top of society typically had big houses with up to 30 rooms along the Nile River.
GEOGRAPHY
DESERT
Much of Egypt is made up of desert, making it very hot and unlivable. For this reason, Egyptians tended to live closer to the Nile River, where the land is cooler and provides the people with valuable essential resources.
FLOODING
Most of Egypt flooded each year in late summer and fall, which was a positive thing for the Egyptian culture because it provided water that allowed the crops to grow.
NILE RIVER
The Nile River was a critical reliable water source to the Egyptian society. It was critical because it watered the crops, provided the Egyptians with fish to eat, and allowed for transportation for trade through the open sea.
AGRICULTURE

TOOLS
Egyptians used tools to help them with their agriculture. Two of the tools they used were a hoe and sickle. The hoe was used to break up large chunks of soil that were churned up by the plow. The sickle was used to cut the grain for harvest.
PAPYRUS
A reed called papyrus was used by the Egyptians to make paper. Papyrus could grow to be up to 16 feet tall. Papyrus was helpful to the Egyptians because it provided them with paper that they could write down their information and keep records on.
ACHIEVEMENTS
SHIPBUILDING
Egyptians made ships out of bundles of papyrus reeds tied together to make a canoe like vessel. This was an achievement because they used these ships on the Nile River to transport people and goods to foreign lands.
HIEROGLYPHICS
Hieroglyphics were pictures and symbols that served as the Egyptian written language. This was an achievement because it was one of the first written languages in the world.
PYRAMIDS
Egyptians built pyramids and the largest great pyramid was built by King Khufu in 2600 BC. This was an achievement because they created architecture methods to build these pyramids that is used as a building foundation today.
RELIGION
THOTH
Thoth was the god of knowledge and was said to have been the inventor of writing and creator of languages. Thoth contributed to Egyptian society because he provided Egyptians with a way to write down their history.
HORUS
Horus was the god of the sky. Horus contributed to Egyptian society because he was a provider and protector of the Egyptian people.
RA
Ra is the Egyptian god of the sun. Ra contributed to Egyptian society because he provided the Egyptians with a rising sun each day, which allowed for life.
