Leslie is Jesse's neighbor when they move, she tries to talk to him, at first she is ignored and after a short time they start playing until Leslie shows Jesse a magical world called Terabithia, she suggests going to the forest to play, that's how they become kings of Therabithia.

At Christmas Jesse didn't know what to give Leslie and he brings home one of the puppies and presents him to Leslie

After Christmas they split up a bit, Jesse was jealous that Leslie helped his dad with her house remodel and they both end up helping with the house renovations.

A heavy rain makes Jesse afraid to go home using the rope to cross, he does it because Leslie is brave.
Jesse goes to Washington with Miss Edmunds who encouraged him to keep drawing, when he returns they give him the news that Leslie dies.
He does not feel sad, but angry. By this incident, he creates a bridge to Therabithia and decides to make May Belle queen.
