The larger themes and concepts discussed in this play are not exclusive to the Youngers in Chicago in the 1950's. They apply to societies across the world. This ensures that every time this book is read, the reader can reflect on how the ideas in the play manifest themselves in the reader's life and in today's world. For example, racism, poverty, desperation for money, success, gender roles, hopes & dreams, etc. These all still exist today, and many are part of the human nature.
