The life of a plantation slave
Food
They were only fed once a day.
The slaves were only fed after the owners. This means that they would only get scraps and leftovers
At best, captives were fed: corn, rice, yams and beans.
Jobs/Work
The slaves did all of the following jobs: sowing, harvesting, juiced, boiling, and distilling.
This was 18 hours a day. The other six hours were saved for sleep and food.
Slaves were not paid whatsoever. This is because they were considered property.
Houses
Weather slaves lived in the same building varied or not.
Slaves barely got any sleep, as they were up at the same time every morning.
Slaves lived in small cottages. They had thatched rooves, and one small bed.
Punishments
The punishment depended on the gender of the "offender".
For example, women would be raped, whereas men would be beaten.
A list of punishments: Rape, toured, mutilation, execution, hanged, beaten, burnt.
Slaves would be punished if the stepped out of line. Even the smallest things could get them a beating.
Clothes
Most of them got basic shoes.
They wore animal skins
Most slaves wore a linen kilt
