Immediate treatment given to a victim or casualty of an illness or accident before the arrival of medical personnel.

VITAL SYSTEMS – RESPIRATORY &
CIRCULATORY
Normal breathing rate
Adult : 12-20 breaths per minute
Child : 20 -24 breaths per minute
Infant : 24-28 breaths per minute
Respiration
Exchange of gases between Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide from the body and
surrounding air
Mechanism of Respiration
Inspiration 🡪 Expiration 🡪 Pause
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
PULSE
Count of heartbeat
Monitor pulse by using balls of the fingers (2-3 fingers)
Press lightly
DO NOT use THUMB
PULSE RATE
ADULT – 60 - 80 beats per minute
CHILD – 80 - 100 beats per minute
INFANT – 100 – 120 beats per minute
