Parallel Lines & Perpendicular Lines - Coggle Diagram
Parallel Lines & Perpendicular Lines
Parallel Lines
Definition
2 lines that will never meet each other.
If two straight lines will never meet each other, they are considered as "parallel".
There has to be 2 lines
Example
Line A: 2x + 1
Line B: 2x
Equation & Tips
For 2 lines to be parallel, the 2 lines have to have the same slope.
The 2 lines cannot share the same X coordinates.
Perpendicular Lines
Definition
Two lines that cross each other.
The angle created will always be 90˚ in the angle.
Example
Line A: 2x
Line B: -1/2 x
Equation & Tips
For a line to be perpendicular to the other, the line has to be the -1/m of the other line.
For example, if line A has a slope of 3, for line B to be perpendicular to line A line B has to be -1/m meaning the slope for line B has to be -1/3
