GOD OF SMALL THINGS.
Town of Ayemenem- Ester and Rachel who are faternal twins - Baby is the aunt- she is evil - trying to maintain that order? and the reality she knows?
-
Ester gets molested by the orange drink lemon drink man when the family goes to see the sound of music - he is now filled with fear - INNOCENCE LOST - INNOCENCE IS THEY WAY THEY MAKE SENSE OF THEIR EXPERIENCES - Rahel innocence is lost due to fact to think her mother loves her a little less
ESTER is now terrified that this man will find him, anything can happen to anyone and its best to be prepared- this leads to HISTORY HOUSE he thinks the man won't be able to find him there so Rahel and Ester get Velutha to fix up a boat for them.
Rahel is jealous of Sophie Mol, she is worried that Ammu will love Sophie more - Rahel is a van of Valutha and Ammu and Valutha have feelings for each other when we start to realise when Rahel goes to see him and they discuss the communist march
THIS IS NOT OKAY IS AMMU IS OF A HIGHER CASTE THEN VALUTHA - THEY GET DISCOVERED - VALUTHA is a untouchable - fear can be exciting ie when they have their affair
Ammu is locked in her room- kids come home to discover this and leave, going to history house they row across the river and this is WHERE Sophie Mol DROWNS - Baby Khokamah blames the kids for her death, saying the need to blame Valutha

LOVE LAWS: whom is allowed to love who, how and how much- it is restrictive?
Critically it looks at why bad things have to happen in the first place : do things happen randomly or are they meant meant to be ? Caste system , only way to make sense of things that happen is to blame the caste system
Novel about family- no unconditional family love except between brother and sister - blood is not thicker then water due to caste system
