computer components
CPU-it processes information and gives an appropriate response. Without this nothing would work processes information cooling fans are needed increasing costs
Video Card-this is the graphics card . Without this nothing will be visible gives better visibility costs a lot of money for good ones
Motherboard-this is the foundation of the computer. Without this the information won’t flow through the computer allows data to flow can only be made with other technology not handmade
RAM- Random Access memory/stores currently use programmes volatile so it loses data the more you have the faster your computer
Power Supply-stores the power to turn on device/no power means no working comp this is needed so it can run the computer by giving it electricity if this doesn’t get power the computer won’t run.
Optical Drive-the disk gets scanned here and read/data and can store videos and images. can store videos as well if gets scratched it wont work again
Hard Disk-the disk gets scanned here and read/data from the disk won’t be read It is very protected making it more portable slower to access than from RAM and ROM
BIOS-this is used to boot up the computer/without it the computer won’t work it allows you to have more control over your computer it is slow to load

network topologies
Star- This is when all nodes are connected to a hub or a central connection point which then gives data to the rest of the nodes faster than bus topology, easy to connect new nodes, failure of node doesn’t affect the rest too much dependency on central device, using a hub or switch increases its cost by a lot
Ring- These are when all devices are connected to 2 other computers and information goes around in one direction.reduced chance of data collision,no need for server to control, equal access to the resources data has to go through all the nodes, single point of failure so if anything fails it all fails
Bus- This is only used for LAN’s and are all connected to one cable called the backbone and if that breaks the whole topology won’t work.linear connections are much easier If the main cable fails all of it won’t work as it is the backbone
Mesh- Everything is connected to each other by wires so data can be sent separately and too everyone.manages high amount of traffic,if any device fails the rest will still work as it does not have a single point of failure It is expensive to make due to more cables , it is harder to maintain than other topologies
Computer Hardware
input devices
Keyboard- this is a set of characters that are inputted in computers to be processed. A positive is it allows you to communicate with the computer however it is easy to make errors inside of it.
Concept Keyboard- this is a keyboard that has a function assigned to each of its characters. This is good as it makes it easier to use however it is still easy to mistakes on it.
Touchscreen- this is when you can touch the screen wherever you want and it reacts to your touch. This is good as it is easier to use then controlling something however you can accidentally touch other things when not wanted.
Output devices
TFT monitors- these are screens that show you what you wanna do when your on a computer and are used for work or gaming and more. these are good as they have good quality however are more expensive.
inkjet printer- a printer in which the characters are formed by jets of ink. This is good as you can add colour on your paper however these cost a lot of money to start up and to maintain due to he price of think ink.
Speaker- a speaker is something that takes and input and outputs music usually from a phone or computer. This is good as they are portable allowing you tot take tehma round with you however can be very loud and annoy people around you
communication devices
modems-These work by connecting a computer a modem which gives you access to a network and goes back through the modem then to the terminal.
Hub-A hub will take information from one thing and transfer it to all things like if a main pc send information to a hub the hub will then send it the rest of the PC's that are connected to the other end of it.

Bridges-This is a type of computer network that provides interconnection with another bridge network to be able to share data and communicate
A leased line is a fixed connection between where yo are and the local one. It is fixed bandwidth. This will send the data to one thing on one route.
This is more expensive due to its faster speed and collisions can be made due to its flow of data.
+faster upload and download speed, doesn’t slow down, more reliability.
ADSL is not a dedicated connection between your premises and the local exchange and is used to connect to the internet.
The bandwidth can change and it is usually faster due to what it can do. This will send your data on a public route finding the shortest route so it doesn’t get much traffic from other information.
Types of cables
Fibre optic -It is similar to a electrical cable but contains 1 or more optical fibres that are used to carry light.
+Can go over much longer distances and it is faster however the more repeaters used the more expensive it gets.
-
This is a lot more expensive than other fibres due to their speed.
Coaxial -A coaxial cable is a cable that has 4 layers which are a plastic exterior, mentailc shield, electric conductor and a centre core
+can support greater cable lengths between network
+extra protective plastic cover to help keep moisture away
-It does not bend easily and difficult to instal as it is too visible.
Twisted pair -Two cables rotated around each other in a way that makes them parallel and wont interfere with each other.(shielded has a cover around the wire
+cheaper
+less likely to cause interference
+faster cause it is a lot cleaner
-it is more difficult to connect to a terminating block
LAN and WAN
WAN (wide area network) is a network on a large geographical scale made up of various LAN connecting countries.
-
+it has better network security and private WANS are very fast
-it has a high budget cost as well as a high maintenance cost due to its large size
-
+This can process a lot of data that is complex and has the ability to solve scientific and commercial problems
-it is very hard to control quantum particles and super expensive.
