Formative Assessments
Definition: Student learning is gathered, providing students with feedback and providing teachers with information to adjust instruction strategies in order to help students perform better. These assessments can also be formal (quizzes) or informal (observations).
Exit Ticket Students will complete an exit ticket to describe apply, analyze, etc. something they learned during that day's class.
Quiz:* Students might complete a quiz at the end of a lesson to assess how they are learning and how they are applying what they are learning.*

Summative Assessments
Definition: These assessments are usually completed at the end of a unit or the year. These provide little opportunity to improve student learning as these assessments determine what students have learned.

Research Project: A research project can be completed in any subject over a variety of topics. This assesses what students have learned and how they can apply their knowledge to create this project.

Definition: Inform teachers of achievement gaps and academic abilities. These are often given on the first day of class, or before starting a unit.
Pre-Assessment: This assessments determines what students do and do not know about a future unit prior to beginning said unit.
Where to Start Word Test: This is a test that informs teachers of what reading level a student might be.
